Oh, Hello There!

If you're here, that means you've probably seen or heard about my rat taxidermy pieces somewhere, either in person or online. Greetings! πŸ‘‹

If you'd rather skip the "About Me" and beeline straight to the rats, here you go!

I also recently started selling some of my dioramas due to space constraints, so if you're interested in purchasing something I've made (no commissions), hit me up on Instagram and we'll talk, or keep an eye out on Facebook Marketplace!

I'm Γ‰milie, I'm in my early forties, I live in Ottawa, Ontario, and I taught myself how to make anthropomorphic rat taxidermy back in early February 2021.

I was originally only going to make one as a gift for my husband, but I fell in love with the hobby, which quickly ballooned to include elaborate, handmade dioramas to house the eternal rat friends. The rats are frozen feeder rats from the pet store, so snake TV dinners, essentially.

This continues to be my absolute dream hobby, and combines all kinds of skills, lots of which I’m still developing - it’s like dollhouse-building, sewing, sculpting, woodworking, graphics, recycling and necromancy all rolled into one.

Here, have a bit of a look below!

Ratzilla

Not everything I make turns out perfectly, but I learn a lot with every rat and every base. I’m absolutely not a professional!

It might not be for everyone, but giving feeder rats eternal life is my jam!

Thanks for stopping by, and enjoy (or don't, I'm not your mom)! 😎

  1. Hi Emilie, I saw your diorama in Lavigne. At first I thought you might be this little girl (obviously now grown up) who was interviewed on CBC several years ago who was into taxidermying mice and making dioramas with them. Carol Off was grossed out and trying hard to be neutral, but the girl was so passionate in describing her hobby (like scooping out the tiny mouse brains). Here is the link. It made me smile to listen to it. https://www.cbc.ca/radio/asithappens/as-it-happens-wednesday-edition-march-18-1.2999953/re-creating-movie-scenes-with-dead-mice-6th-grader-on-taxidermy-hobby-1.3000457
Anyway I scanned your QR code and here I am. I just wanted to drop you a note to say I love your dioramas and especially your attention to detail! Amazing! Thank you for sharing your talent in small out of the way places- to the delight of passers-by. Keep creating!

    1. Heya! Thanks for your comment, and that link! This made me laugh, adorable and accurate: "They're kind of like pets, but they're dead," Mackenzie told As It Happens host Carol Off. πŸ˜†

It makes so happy people are out there bumping into my eternal friends out in the wild!

I was actually just featured in my small community newspaper, I'm on pages 34 & 35 if ever! https://manorparkchronicle.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/CHRONICLE-FINAL-Sep-Oct-2025.pdf

Thanks again so much for your message, it was lovely to wake up to! ❤️
